Trust Location: North London – Finchley Site (Travel to other sites maybe required)
Pay Rates: Day – £13.51, Nights, Saturday– £17.96, Sunday, Bank Holidays - £22.40
Shift Patterns: Long days, Nights, Twilight and Split shifts

As well as our inpatient unit at Woodside Avenue, we work within the wider community including our Outpatient and Wellbeing services; our support to patients in their own homes; our Community Specialist Palliative Care services; and our Patient and Family Support teams, providing emotional and practical support to patients, their families and carers.
The Inpatient Unit palliative care team provide holistic, skilled, high-quality and patient centred palliative care to all in-patients.
Role Purpose
To be a productive member of the Inpatient Unit palliative care team, delivering holistic, skilled, high-quality patient-centred care and directly assisting other staff in clinical procedures and adherence to the CQC fundamental standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Holistic patient care - Delivering clinical care to patients as detailed in care plans, providing care on apriority basis; assisting with clinical procedures, recording clinical observations and supporting patients to meet their nutritional and hydration needs; ensuring accurate documentation of all patient records; assisting with discharge and transfer of patients to other areas as well as end of life and deceased patient care
- Day to day care - Washing, dressing, assisting with self-care, pressure area care using repositioning and relevant pressure aids, escorting to external appointments as agreed by the multidisciplinary team,
- Reporting and recording - Changes in patient condition promptly to RN or senior on duty; nutritional and hydration activity; bowel action and fluid output; SSKIN care bundle; completion of any appropriate individualised documentation relating to the safe care of named patients and maintaining consistent and continuous communication across the team on all patient information
- Additional care responsibilities - Following appropriate training and competency assessment administration of nebulised medication, checking the accurate running of syringe drivers, assessment and documentation of the condition of skin surrounding the syringe driver needle and location of transdermal medication patches, safe management of oxygen equipment and any other appropriate duties following relevant training
- Service user interactions - Including supporting family members and significant others, treating them with empathy and dignity and proactively advocating for patients
- Decision making responsibility - Is at task level – making decisions that impact the order in which tasks are completed and how they are done, consulting with manager on any decisions that impact the wider team and / or organisation
- Key working relationships -Including but not limited to: Daily/weekly - patients, IPU team, managers & leaders, volunteers, nursing students. Occasionally - external medical professionals, Funeral Directors, work experience placements and other visiting staff
- Infection Control - Maintain the highest standards of infection control. Familiarise with, and adhere to the North London Hospice Infection Control Processes, Policies and Procedures
- Health and Safety - Understand individual safety and security responsibilities. Familiarise with, and adhere to, the relevant health, safety and security policies across North London Hospice. Be aware and work to support own personal health and safety and the health and safety of others across the Hospice. Maintain patient, personal and organisational confidentiality at all times. You’ll need to have the following qualification/experience:
- A minimum of 6 months paid experience in an Inpatient care environment within a hospital in the last 3 years
- Experience in palliative care
- Knowledge of infection control practices
- Comply with NMC Professional Registration and keep up to date with current nursing practices
- The ability to ensure accurate records are kept in accordance with CHS policy and NMC guidelines
- Be committed to undertake regular mandatory training
