Job Title: Prison Nurse                       

Trust Location:  Birmingham 

Pay Rates: £21.80 - £34.87 + holiday
Shift Patterns: Days, Nights, Weekends & Bank Holidays

As a Registered Nurse working in a men’s category B prison, you play a pivotal role in their rehabilitation back into the community.

You will be integral to the care of our service users during their stay in prison and this demanding and intense environment also gives our specialised nurses and healthcare assistants a huge sense of accomplishment and reward.

 

An open mind is key within this sector to enable you to establish the best possible ways to care for your service user and develop a robust and excellent relationship with patients to build trust and confidence.

 

You will learn the following:

  • You will attend a paid 2 day informative and in-depth prison induction.
  • You will be a driving force for change and improvement bringing new ideas to respond more effectively to the diverse needs of our service users.
  • To support families and loved ones as they will play a vital role in supporting with the service users care.

What you’ll be responsible for 

  • Assessing and monitoring patient conditions
  • Checking symptoms and vital signs and attending vaccination clinics
  • Work on prison Healthcare reception
  • Liaising with colleagues through the Prison Radio
  • Recognising, responding to, and managing emergency situations
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate standards of evidence-based nursing care

You’ll need to have the following qualification/experience:

  • A minimum of 6 months experience in an acute nursing role within a prison in the last 3 years, preferable but not essential. (band 5 or above)
  • If you have previous experience in an Emergency Department or community setting there is opportunity for the right applicant to be put through further training. 
  • Immediate Life Support and Vaccination Training.
  • Comply with NMC Professional Registration and keep up to date with current nursing practices.
  • Undertake regular mandatory training.
